Dr. Cermak writes in Volume One that not all adults from alcoholic families are the same. While the label ACA brings to mind a valuable general blueprint of possible characteristics, each individual must be evaluated in at least six areas separately in order to tailer a treatment plan: 1) Their understanding and acknowledgment of alcoholism, 2)  Their potential for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, 3) Their level of co-dependence, 4) The degree of underlearning stemming from a neglectful family, 5) Any dual diagnosis psychiatric conditions, 6) Their depth of recovery.Volume Two provides clinical suggestions for treating each of the six different ways that adult children of alcoholics may have been affected by their experience.
